World Usability Day | November 3
World Usability Day | Making it Easy!
Hey its world usability day!
hat do a rail line and trucking company have in common? According to an article in the October 28 St. Louis Dispach by David Sheets they are both examples of businesses faced costly lessons due to a lack of usability."It’s a broad term but one we must consider more carefully to survive the technology-intensive 21st century."
Local experts Charlotte Schwendeman and Jeff Lash are quoted in the article with examples of how they incorporate usability into their professional work. Two local professors, Maggie Jiao Ma and Jerry Weinberg talk about how they teach their computer science students to look at a software design problem from the users' perspective.
Some of the quotes echo mantras of usability experts around the world:
“What is really important to know is that an application can be user-friendly but still not usable. Being usable means that a product was designed for a specific population of users and that the designers took into consideration the way these users work or play.” - Jerry Weinberg
“One misconception is that accessibility is only important for special-needs users. If applied properly, accessibility can benefit everyone.” - Jeff Lash
“This is not to say the look and feel of a product are unimportant. But, rather, if you don’t start with and get the bottom 60 percent right, you’ll never get the top 40 percent right.” - Charlotte Schwendeman

MOCA Geffen and Ecstasy

For calling a show Ecstasy one might think it might have something to do with the ecstatic joy felt when taking MDMA. This show at MOCA downtown has more to do with mushrooms and LSD. Not that there's anything wrong with mushrooms but call the damn show Psilocybin then, thanks.
