Day 6: Havana Walking

Streets of Havana.

Day 6 Havana walking

We do the walking tour of Centro Havana from the Lonely Planet guide. It gives a good idea of what to see and what is what. I'm taking a lot of video footage, it's the first time I've traveled out of the country with a video camera (I used a Super 8 camera in Morocco).
Walk down Avenue des Italias.
Capitolio (modeled after the US capital)
Partagas Cigar Factory is closed.
Parque de la Fraternidad- park where the major public bus stop is. We can see lots camel buses here. These are the public buses that are shaped somewhat like a camel with two lumps, pulled by a semi cab. A woman and her mother ask us for money. This happened one other time when we were in Havana, some children asked us for gum and money. Other than that, there was no begging.
Get our people taken by a old camera and with a superimposed Cuban flag on it.
Palmodar lunch. Australian traveler who is a women's union activist tells us that we can check email at the Capitolio. We have to show our passport and pay a small amount. Sounds great, but I never got around to it. We then walk over to the Plaza of the Armes, see some tanks from the Revolucaion and the Bay of Bigs.

Man carrying a cake: typical scene.

Capitolio: Hall of Lost Steps

Capitolio: Dome

Rhonda and Fidel's Tank: Bay of Pigs

Tacqueria with no tortillas. All week.

Hall of Matrimony: Many people get married here.

Partagas Cigar Factory: Closed for a month for holiday

San Cristobal Cathedral
